The Mystic Lagoon Ring belongs to my series inspired by ancient impact craters and the intriguing formations they leave behind on our planet. There is something endlessly fascinating about thinking back millions of years to the dramatic beginnings of these landscapes. While the concept originates in geology, the final piece has a beautiful, undulating quality that feels reminiscent of a hidden coral shelf or a small volcanic island ecosystem.
I hand-fabricated the architectural ring frame from sterling silver, keeping the structural band wide and square for a highly modern, comfortable fit on the hand. Held securely within the textured perimeter is a piece of luminous carved glass, cold-worked to form a deep, velvety blue pool. Nestled directly into the heart of this aquatic basin is an artful, horizontal arrangement of three contrasting treasures: a shimmering genuine pearl, a faceted topaz, and a fiery natural opal that catches the light with every slight movement.
