I love experimenting with the concept of creating compositions with volume by piling elements in a seemingly haphazard way—but is in fact pretty deliberate. I love to combine rare, dissimilar elements that play off one another.
The combination of pyrite, lapis lazuli, sapphire, and topaz creates a bold and visually striking mix of rich colors and textures. Pyrite, with its metallic gold tones, adds a touch of warmth and a reflective shine, creating an earthy yet luxurious foundation. Lapis lazuli, with its deep blue color flecked with golden pyrite inclusions, brings a sense of depth and sophistication to the mix. The deep blue sapphire contributes elegance and richness, enhancing the overall palette. Finally, topaz brings clarity, sparkle, and a bright contrast to the darker tones of lapis lazuli and sapphire. Together, these stones create a harmonious balance of depth, warmth, and brilliance, combining both earthy and regal qualities.
Because I hand-cut stones right in my studio, I am able to shape unusual rough mineral specimens specifically to build complex, one-of-a-kind miniature landscapes. Sourcing raw materials worldwide and doing my own lapidary work allows me to tailor the forms of both this striking pyrite and the vibrant lapis lazuli, ensuring they lock seamlessly into the hand-constructed sterling silver setting.
